Education is the most powerful weapon, which you can use to change the world. Nelson Mandela

July 23, 2011 Heatwave
"But this is Miami, you can't come to Miami and not show any skin. You gotta show something. If you're all covered up in this heat, you're gonna make me pass out out just to look at you. It's sweaty in Miami-but the diamonds will keep me cool." Li'l Kim

July 11, 2011 From One Day-David Nicholls (Written by a man, spot on for every woman I know.)
"Handsome, a silly nineteenth century word, but really there was no other word for it except prehaps, 'beautiful'. He had one of those faces where you were aware of the bones beneath the skin, as if even the bare skull would be attractive."

Garth Brooks-Friend to Me
Well you and I
We're buddies
And we've been since we first met
Me and you
Well we've sure been through
Our share of laughter and regret

Lord knows we've had our bad days
And more than once we've disagreed
But you've always been a friend to me

You can be so stubborn
There's times I think you just like to fight
And I hope and pray
I live to see a day
When you say I might be right

And there's times I'd rather kill you
Than listen to your honesty
But you've always been a friend to me

You've always been
Time and again
The one to take my hand
And show to me it's okay to be
Just the way I am
With no apology

Oh you've always been
And you will 'til God knows when
Yes you've always been a friend to me

June 23, 2011-The Here I go Again Edition

New life decides to come through the front door
and makes us wish we'd shown respect before
though I don't have much of a choice
I resolve to regain my voice

If I only just begin to understand it that's because
every time I start to change my mind again
it gets me back to where I was

New life decides we never had a clue
the two of us deciding what to do

Though my hands are all but tied
I rebound so I can say at least I tried

And long as I'm allowed i'll change my mind that's what it's for
I'm getting older but I'm still the same
I'm just not thinking anymore

“The way you eat is inseparable from your core beliefs about being alive. Your relationship with food is an exact mirror of your feelings about love, fear, anger, meaning and transformation.”

"We know we have the tools to help children. People are already doing it every day/" Jeffrey Canada, Waiting for Superman

June 5. 2011 (FNL)
From an NYT article on Glee vs FNL. This sentence sums up the greatness.

"If “Glee” is about expressing yourself, believing in yourself and loving yourself all the way to a moment of pure adrenaline-fueled glory, then “Friday Night Lights” is about breathing in and appreciating the small, somewhat-imperfect moments that make up an average life."

June 2, 2011(Perspective. Try it. )

"We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are."
Anais Nin

May 31, 2011 (Beach Edition) Braid Paisley-Water

All you really need
This time of year, is a pair of shade and an ice cold beer
And somewhere to sit, somewhere near
The water
And when the summer sun starts beating down
And you don't know what to do
Grab your swimming trunks, ice up that old igloo
And drive 'till the map turns blue

May 27, 2011 They are all great and mighty, but I have a soft spot for one group. Always have.

From the Halls of Montezuma
To the Shores of Tripoli;
We fight our country's battles
In the air, on land and sea;
First to fight for right and freedom
And to keep our honor clean;
We are proud to claim the title
of United States Marine.
-------
If the Army and the Navy
Ever look on Heaven's scenes;
They will find the streets are guarded
By United States Marines

May 25, 2011 (Girl Power)
From Beyonce Knowles: Girls Who Run the World

I'm repping for the girls who taking over the world

Boy you know you love it how we're smart enough to make these millions
Strong enough to bear the children then get back to business
Please, you better not play me oh come here baby
Hope you still like me if you pay me

May 24, 2011(sometimes the F word just works edition.)

From the song: Shame on You from the Indigo Girls: A little message about immigration and ego

My friend Tanner she says, "you know me and Jesus we're of the same heart.
The only thing that keeps us distant is that I keep fuckin up."

Let's go road block trippin in the middle of the night up in Gainesville town
There'll be blue lights flashin down the long dirt road when they ask me to step out
They say,"we be looking for illegal immigrants. Can we check your car?"
I say, "you know it's funny I think we were on the same boat back in 1694"

May 23, 2011
Seemed fitting to start out with words from the lady who inspired this page. She is a MASTER.
One Sided Momma on Mothering:
"Today I learned a lot about mothering. The greatest asset of mothering, for me, is knowing other amazing ladies who are givers. Mothering feels like arriving at a place in life where it's okay to confess you're weak and just as okay to admit when you're strong. Mothers always make the time to keep track, check in, and take care of each other because we know like the day is long nobody else will sign up for those tasks."
